We’re gonna take a quick break from yoga in the classic sense to talk about the most important thing in the world right now: Christmas!! My apartment is in the full swing of the Christmas spirit (photo of apartment). Due to knee surgery on my roommate’s part and general laziness and holiday enthusiasm on my part, we’ve written a list of about thirty Christmas movies that need to be watched together before we go home for the holidays (verdict on the Ultimate Holiday Movie List to come). The little studying we do is set to a Christmas soundtrack. We have so many decorations that I had to send some back to my parents’ house. No room at the inn. And finally, and maybe most importantly, festive food! I am sustained mostly by clementines at this point, and we’re experimenting with new Christmas cookie recipes. I wanted to share a super easy one with y’all today!

Homemade Turtles! They’re low in sugar, high in Christmas spirit, and super cute! I made mine with dark chocolate because I prefer it to milk, but you can swap the semisweet for milk chocolate chips. I’m not gonna tell you these taste exactly like store-bought turtles – they’re not as sweet, and the caramel flavour isn’t as pronounced. Personally, I think they’re different but better – and they’re fun to make and 400%

more adorable than your classic Turtles.

Get ready for the simplest recipe of all time:

1. Semisweet chocolate chips

2. Medjool dates

3. Whole pecans

That’s it.

Melt the chocolate in a double boiler or microwave. Set out a sheet of parchment paper or a reusable baking mat. One turtle at a time, lay four pecans out so the pointiest sides point in towards each other (they should look like turtle feet!) on the sheet.

Peel and pit a date, and then smush it into a little ball shape. The more you work the dates with your hands and the fresher they are, the more gooey and delicious they will become. Flatten the date ball out a little bit and coat the bottom with a bit of chocolate. Press the patty onto the four pecans. Drizzle more chocolate over top. Repeat for as many turtles as you want! Pop them in the fridge for about two hours (I left mine overnight). Take them out in the morning and allow them to thaw for another few hours. Serve at room temperature!

Do me a favour and enjoy these homemade treats properly, with some hot chocolate and a holiday movie!

Namaste
